【Course Objectives】
After attending Foundation Certificate Course on NDI, participants would have gained foundational knowledge about the use of NDI on different populations, brief understanding of symbols in drawings and basic counselling techniques with the use of NDI. This advanced course focuses on practicum experiences – the techniques of establishing rapport with clients, how to initiate therapeutic relationships and conduct therapeutic conversations. Participants will be provided the chance to conduct counselling sessions with real clients, the trainer will then provide feedback and critique for each participant’s recorded sessions. This enriched learning experience will guarantee an exponential learning curve in the application of NDI on different clientele.
【Course Content】
- Development of professional attitudes and approach to NDI counselling through case presentations and analysis
(each participant is required to take part in two case reports, for practicum purposes)
- Live demonstration and elaborations of NDI by trainer, allowing participants to gain a clear understanding of the essence of NDI and its applications
- Therapeutic strategies for clients of different age groups
- Application of verbal and nonverbal skills in a flexible manner, in order to fulfil therapeutic outcomes
- Analysis of the importance of narratives and how it can be applied to make sense of the underlying issues of the client, and subsequently facilitating the client to address them
- Gaining an in-depth understanding in the application of different drawing themes

【Course Objectives】
This course is a continuation of the foundation and practicum training on Narrative Drawing Intervention®. It aims to develop more profound and broader practical competence in counselling professionals who are interested in using Narrative Drawing Intervention in conducting counselling and therapeutic groups. This course provides participants with detailed feedback on the effective and tactful use of NDI on different client groups. By the end of the program, participants will be able to confidently utilise NDI in clinical practice.
【Course Content】
- Each participant is required to prepare 2 sets of 30-minute video case recordings, with the purpose of using NDI on psychotherapy.
- Each participant is required to report on the situation of the client, this includes his/her basic information, focus on the therapeutic process, as well as individual reflections on therapeutic outcomes and problems encountered during the therapeutic process.
- The trainer will provide feedback and supervision on participant’s understanding of concepts and therapeutic techniques in conducting therapy using NDI.
- Through sharing of a wide range of experiences and insights accumulated over a decade, the trainer will provide participants with comprehensive supervision.
- In-depth exploration of the core attributes of the NDI therapist – professional, ethical, competent, mature and sensitive when conducting psychotherapy.

- In order to better digest and absorb the students, the 6-day course is divided into two stages of teaching.
- Students report and analyze in detail through case video (with the written consent of the client), and the teacher provides personalized guidance, combined with NDI theory, to supervise treatment skills.
- Consolidate students’ basic understanding of NDI and learn from the past.
- Encourage students to share the difficulties encountered in case counseling in class and learn from each other.
- Instructors share valuable clinical experience and insights accumulated through a large number of cases.
Students are guided to carefully analyze and reflect on their own and other students’ cases by reviewing the case videos, and on this basis, conduct in-depth discussions on case counseling skills, psychological knowledge, and the application of psychoanalysis.
- Explore in-depth attitudes as a therapist, and learn to be a professional, ethical and confident peer-to-peer with a non-harming, non-judgmental, and non-predetermining attitude.
Equip trainees to establish the characteristics of independence, keenness, and multi-perspective thinking, and to carry out NDI psychotherapy maturely.
- A continuation of the NDI Internship Program, aimed at professional psychotherapists, mental health workers, social workers and educators who are interested in applying NDI to case therapy or group therapy, aiming to develop a deeper and richer understanding of helping professionals Practical ability.

【Course Content】
As part of the NDI Instructor Development Programme, the first stage of the TNDI Course is an experiential course in which participants will present the following topics in small groups: 1) What is narrative therapy? What important role does narrative therapy play in NDI?
2) What is art therapy?
3) What is NDI?
4) The eight transformative processes of NDI.
5) What is the meaning of ‘making the unconscious conscious’?
6) How to apply NDI to case conceptualisation?
7) How to apply NDI in therapy sessions? Participants will be given an in-depth study of each of the topics to build up the basic skills for becoming a qualified NDI trainer.
In the second stage of the course, each participant will give a 15-minute oral presentation and a 30-minute video presentation on the workshops, group counselling sessions, lectures or case studies they have conducted. The presentation will include a description of the client’s basic information, highlights of the treatment process, personal findings and reflections, treatment outcomes, difficulties encountered or questions to ponder, etc. The video presentation can be a highlight of the counselling process or a section on the difficulties encountered that participants would like to be supervised on. This is followed by peer supervision and then mentor supervision.
【Course Features】
- All trainees are selected from among the best trainees in SNDI class.
- Through pre-course reading and preparation, classroom presentations and discussions, participants gain a clearer understanding of NDI’s thinking and culture.
- The preparation stage of the course is non-prescriptive, which increases the difficulty of supervision but preserves the individuality of the trainees and enhances their professionalism.
- Small classes (16 participants or less). The aim is to develop a group of professional and pragmatic Narrative Drawing Therapists and Trainers. Successful candidates will receive a certificate as a therapist and trainer of Narrative Drawing Intervention®, awarded by the founder of the Narrative Drawing Intervention®, Dr. Monica Wong. And will sign a Contract with the Narrative Drawing Intervention® Institute to be qualified to teach Narrative Drawing Intervention® related courses.
